2008 Exhibition Season Opens at National Art Gallery

The 2008 exhibition season at the National Art Gallery opened on 7th February with 'In Silent Spaces' by Male'-based artist Hassan Ziyad.
The exhibition features a series of highly realistic paintings of natural scenes and architectural ruins found in the Maldives and were produced by Ziyad over a one-year period. Otherwise engaged in the production of souvenir items for the tourist market, including hand-painted and printed t-shirts, this is Ziyad's first exhibition in Male'.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue and according to NAG, the show will remain open until 13th March 2008. During the exhibition, the gallery will be hosting various information sessions with students, art collectors, NAG members, tourists and other visitors to ....

Now let’s take a few steps back and glance at the year 2007 and the major media moments and work carried out in the field of developing the local media environment…
January: Saw the launch of the Press Forward Maldives campaign, a year long training program for all working media personnel from private as well as state media. “Political Parliamentary and Court Reporting” was the first training program held under the Press Forward Maldives campaign which was run by the Ministry of Information.
February: This month saw the launch of the first Maldives Government web blog, yours truly ....

Ever since the Royal Library of Alexandria was founded in the Third Century B.C., libraries have been in the business of providing information and serving people. Today, however, they are under mounting pressure to show their effectiveness and quantify their value in order to justify funding or requests for increased funding.
We are in an age of experimentation. Nowadays, library users are experiencing public libraries the likes of which they have never before seen. While the 1990s may be remembered as the era of the anchor facility, when libraries were called upon to define and support a community's renaissance, this decade's library projects are responding to a new set of expectations and opportunities. NAG to Organize Photography Workshop

National Art Gallery will be organizing a five day photography workshop in Male’ from the 1st to 5th of December 2007. During the five day workshop Sri Lankan photographer Menika ven der Poorten will be working with a group of Maldivian photographers who were selected through an open invitation for applications and by exclusive invitation to the Maldivian photographers’ group ‘Unique Maldives’ (The group had established an understanding with the NAG earlier in the year whereby the gallery will be facilitating the development and the promotion of the group through the implementation of several long-term projects).
