Ministry of Information and Arts
Mandate
The Ministry of Legal Reform, Information and Arts is assigned the following functions:
1. Formulating policy on how to communicate various policies of the Government; disseminate information by it; and impart information on various projects it runs for public benefit.
2. Regulating various forms of broadcasting in the country and working towards their enhancement.
3. Developing Maldives media as per modern standards; formulating policies and rules on how ideas, information, and thoughts may be expressed freely; maintain the independence of the media; and work towards protecting the rights of persons involved in the media.
4. Leading the way to communicating information on Maldives in the international arena.
5. Assisting and facilitating foreign persons and parties interested in obtaining information on Maldives.
6. Disseminating information both locally and overseas through the use of various mediums.
7. Establishing facilities and conveniences for foreign persons and parties interested in filming in the Maldives and extending such conveniences to them.
8. Representing the Maldives media in the international community and representing Maldives in international festivals, fairs and events where the country’s participation is required.
9. Imparting media relations skills to Government departments and enhancing their media relations.
10. Listing journalists and writers in the country and working towards their betterment.
11. Working towards developing Dhivehi fonts used in the electronic media.
12. Maintaining safely all archival materials of the country; digitizing their storage and retrieval; establishing various facilities to enable such materials to be conveniently used by the public; and determining relevant policies.
13. Listing persons working in the entertainment industry and visual and performing arts industry; collecting information on them; facilitating advancement of their skills; and maintaining a database on them.
14. Maintaining records of artworks in the country; registering those artworks requiring registration; and maintain a database on them.
15. Registering libraries run in the Maldives;
16. Encouraging, assisting, and developing Maldivian talent and productions;
17. Administer and manage all matters that ought to be carried out under the law to discharge the functions assigned to the Ministry of Legal Reform, Information and Arts;
